Cool Congress “My Sisyphean Hell” Live at Lee’s Palace, Toronto 1991

My Sisyphean Hell

I keep my pride in an hourglass

So now I guess only time will tell

Will tonight be as cold as last

Or is this just my Sisyphean Hell?

We stopped the car before the bridge washed out

Don’t ask me why because I can’t tell you what it’s about

We were drowning in the Arctic Sea

But the best part was that it was you and me

And some guy says it’s the wind that’s cold

As if I didn’t realize

And the way I accuse his words

Is something I do despise

But I could never abominate myself

For giving you such an abound love

So please don’t make the last rites on my soul

Just hocus pocus! It’s a flaming dove

And the snowfall’s the first of the year

It’s not like the summer I can’t see clear

I tell myself to get things done

Try to stick it out – don’t get a gun

But when I pull – pull – pull my trigger

The bullets fall to the icy ground

I put my gun back in its holster

And it’s time, I feel, to abscond

It’s a direct hit and I feel so ashamed

And I fall to my weakening knees

Oh I remember the last threatening words you said

I pray to God for your soul to keep

And I can remember the springtime

How it was always just you and I

From TV dinners to Chicken a la King

The both come frozen – It’s the same damn thing

Jack the Ripper is back from the grave

And Elvis Presley is a brand-new rage

Better men – better men than me have meant less

But better men haven’t made such a mess

I keep my pride in an hourglass

So now I guess only time will tell

Will tonight be as cold as last

Or is this just my Sisyphean Hell?
